In this current stage of technology, processing plants have been meeting the stan- dards to make sure they are not harming the environment. Some companies have decided to raise the bar and exceed the environmental standards asked of them. To reduce the environmental impact to the surrounding waters, Continental Automotive Systems (Changshu) decided to reduce pollutant emissions from their plant, despite already meeting the discharge standard. The company was aware of the many lakes in the area near their plant and wanted to make sure they decreased their footprint. The initial objective was to reduce pollutant emission by 30%. The company invested RMB 1.8 million to upgrade their wastewater treatment facility. After starting the project, the company achieved 55% reduction, compared with 2020. They have also shared their results with other plants to help them achieve the same environmental improvements. Through daily experience, Continental is constantly improving their equipment process: keeping the equipment running in good condition and ensuring the quality of wastewater treatment. The company also plans to install a wastewater recycling system to reuse 40% wastewater. The purpose of this system is to reduce the volume of wastewater discharge in the future.
