Insurance is a long-term business. We insure people and companies for the future. For us, looking forward and acting sustainably is a matter of course. We are guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which describe the key challenges of our time.
As a Group, ERGO continues to resolutely pursue the climate goals of our “Ambition 2025” strategy programme. We will significantly reduce CO2 emissions in our own business operations, in our insurance business and our investments. We aim to gradually move towards net-zero emissions across all sectors by 2050 at the latest.
In the area of climate protection, at our locations, together with local partners/foundations we promote afforestation project in ecologically fragile areas in China to improve forest coverage, help conserve water and soil, mitigate disasters and protect biodiversity, over 7,000 trees of different varieties to be planted in 3 consecutive years in around 33,333 square meters area. We also support on soil restoration project in collaboration with partner and peers, aiming at reducing soil pollution and thereby protecting agricultural production and the ecological environment. Our support in this aspect are conducted in two formats, one is to support on the research on agricultural film pollution and sustainable agricultural development; the other format is to make donation in promoting the use of fully biodegradable mulch film. Furthermore, we help rural children become environmentally conscious by organizing environment protection summer camp, where children learning and experiencing the process of recycling through visit sewage treatment plants and local solid waste disposal factory and waste sorting classes.
At our locations, we get involved in climate action as an accountable and eco-friendly citizen – through volunteer work performed by our employees, we conduct clean-up activity as well as tree planting in suburb of Beijing.
