Project Name:Boehringer Ingelheim Joins “Million Forest Plan” to Combat Desertification in Tengger Desert and Launches “Low-carbon Trip to Alashan”
Award Category: CSR
Since Boehringer Ingelheim’s (BI) inception in 1885, sustainable development has been rooted in the company's guiding principles. In 2021, the Sustainable Development for Generations strategy was rolled out at the corporate level. One of its three pillars, More Potential, focuses on the sustainability of communities. In the Chinese Market, BI actively fulfills its social responsibility by addressing environmental challenges such as climate change, ecological restoration, and biodiversity protection. BI also leverages its professional expertise to enhance the potential of vulnerable groups and support long-term development of communities.
In March 2023, BI China joined the China Green Foundation’s Million Forest Plan, donating and claiming 20,000 trees in Alashan County, Inner Mongolia. The forest covers approximately 357 acres and can absorb 422,790 kg of carbon dioxide in total. This strengthens the local ecological balance and builds a green vegetation barrier, helping to combat land desertification.
In June, 20 volunteers from BI, including the CFO, embarked on a Low-Carbon Journey to the forest. The journey featured various sustainability activities, such as tree planting, garbage clean-up and sustainable travelling, reflecting the concept of green and low-carbon development.
Throughout the project, BI continuously delivered sustainable development messages through internal and external communication channels, raising awareness among employees and the public. The project sparked a wave of enthusiasm for green , low-carbon development both within and outside the company.
